According to a Reuters report, the Sanlu Dairy Group, the company at the centre of China’s melamine in milk crisis was finally sold for €70m to a Chinese food group, Beijing Sanyuan Group Ltd. The company had declared bankruptcy and its former chairwoman Tian Wenhua jailed for life and fined almost €3m for her role in the crisis. Read More

A major investigation by US authorities into illnesses caused by Salmonella Typhimurium has identified products from a peanut processing company as the source of the outbreak. More than 2,100 products in 17 categories have been voluntarily recalled by more than 200 companies, and the list continues to grow. The US FDA urges consumers to check their web site for the latest list of recalled products, which now also includes pet foods. |

A large seafood company has recalled a batch of its Frozen Breaded Scampi 235g, due to pieces of glass being found in a small number of the packets. The company has recalled the affected batch from sale and product recall notices were placed in retail stores. These notices alert customers to the recall and advise them of what actions to take if they purchased the product. |
