The RQA Food Security Audit is designed to provide a thorough evaluation of the Food Security capability of facilities that manufacture, process, package, or hold food products. It is not designed as a comprehensive audit to assess HACCP, Product Recall & Traceability capability or to assess Business Continuity Management plans. RQA has other audits which concentrate on these areas.
The RQA audit has been compiled by considering a number of sources including internal RQA expertise as well as considering industry best practices. In addition the following other sources have been considered: BSI PAS 96:2008 (Defending Food and Drink), US FDA/CFSAN (21.3.03) (United Sates of America, Food & Drug Administration, Centre for Foods Safety & Applied Nutrition, Food Security Preventative Measures Guidance), and FSIS Guidelines (United States of America, Foods Safety & Inspection Service Guidance), and HACCP System Guidelines (Codex Alimentarius).
The audit contains sections that are further broken into a list of related audit items. Each audit item is evaluated and scored using a 4 point scale. Facilities are required to provide objective evidence to demonstrate their level of compliance to the audit item.
